BARRIO BOY

MATEO BIRKNER

Menswear stylist Antonio Abrego went back to his roots for this Ponyboy editorial and we just loved the outcome! From Antonio, “My inspiration for this shoot was people and musicians from my teenage years in California. This included people from New York and England, and rock ‘n’ roll musicians from the 50s, primarily Little Richard, Gene Vincent, Richie Valens, Chicano punk rockers from the 70s, and bands like The Cramps, The Zeros and The Clash. This also includes Pachucos and other outsiders from the 40s and 50s. I remember seeing older punk rockers wearing vintage clothes from the 40s and 50s with a more contemporary punk rock attitude.” Photography Alexander Thompson. Stylist Antonio Abrego. ROCKIN’

ROCKAWAYS

With summer’s end fast approaching, we thought we’d throw together a men’s editorial with one of our favorite men’s staples, the classic vintage rayon Hawaiian shirt. While we’ve long collected these vintage gems, we thought it best to turn to our dear friends over at Dated Vintage.  A favorite vintage showroom of ours based in New York City, co-owner Antonio Abrego, who has styled two other Ponyboy shoot’s for us in the past, pulled some of his favorite, collectible shirts acquired over the years for us to feature. We thought the perfect model for this shoot would be newcomer Jake Filling, from New York Model Management, with his summer golden locks. We trekked out to the trendy Rockaways on a hot summer day, the closest thing to Miami Beach for us New York City dwellers. Take a look! Photography Alexander Thompson. VINTAGE TIES

Ponyboy has long been a lover of vintage silk ties. And we’ve collected more than our fair share over the years, specifically the wide, colorful and eclectic 40s silk hand painted ties, as well as the sleek, thin styles from the 1950s and early 60s. We booked male model newcomer Zach Troost, with New York Models NY, to feature some of the vibrant, vintage treasures from the archives of Dated Vintage New York. Antonio Abrego, co-owner of Dated Vintage who styled our editorial, stated, “I love the look of kitschy, vintage ties, especially ties from the 1930s to the 1950s, because the designs are fun and can set your style apart!” Photography Alexander Thompson.
