KOZABURO

FALL 2017

Menswear label Kozaburo gave us everything that we crave – PUNK! GLAM!! GOTH!!! for it’s Fall 2017 collection. Shown during the first day of men’s fashion week, Japanese born designer Kozaburo Akasaka assembled deconstructed looks that were just short of brilliant. Pants were very high-waisted, overcoats were belted, and these looks were paired with 70s glam rock, over-the-top platform boots. There was an incredible shredded white men’s dress shirt worn on a bleach blond model, that seemed reminiscent of something Adam Ant may have worn back in the early 80s. Another look nodded to Bowie’s “Thin White Duke” era, yet much darker. Oh! And there’s that jean jacket that was a deconstructed masterpiece. The designer showed 10 very strong looks which succeeded in giving off that underground, rebellious young kid effect that Ponyboy just loves. We were mesmerized by everything about it, and Kozaburo won us over as our favorite new menswear designer. We’ll keep watching closely! Photography Alexander Thompson https://www.kozaburo.com/

LIVE FAST DIE YOUNG

PUNK BEN STIFT

Ponyboy goes PUNK! Our fashion editor, Maria Ayala, dressed the 18 year old Hungarian Ben Stift from Fusion Models NY in custom Christian Benner distressed t-shirts and studded leather jackets. Our mantra “LIVE FAST, DIE YOUNG” comes, of course, from one of our favorite Circle Jerk’s songs. Ben is wearing amazing jeans from Helmut Lang, Top Man and Diesel Black Gold. We were pleased to have art direction and men’s grooming by the very creative Walton Nunez, a Los Angeles transplant who was very familiar with the California punk look and lifestyle.

CHRISTIAN BENNER

NEW YORK CITY 1977

At the Christian Benner A/W 2014 Collection at Pier 59 Studios in New York City, we saw exactly what we had expected from Mr. Benner – and we loved it! The theme for his debut runway collection was “New York City 1977”, which is a look we adore at Ponyboy. The Nancy Spungeon aesthetic never looked so good – dark eyes, black hosiery, and the most exquisite custom studded leather jackets and distressed punk rock t-shirts. It’s obvious to us that Christian Benner is extremely passionate about his creations, as we see them as pure, wearable art. Our favorite jacket had small handwriting scrawled all over it, as if printed that way. It is very young and very rebellious; so we understand why both rockstars and celebrities flock to snap up his pieces. We highly anticipate future collections by the talented Mr. Benner.
